Why I need this, part one

This is going to be a new thing for me.  Occasionally I come across something that really tickles my fancy, or it might be something that will make my life incredibly easier.  Or at least I'll be convinced that it will.

I remember walking through the BYU bookstore back in 1981 and stopping to look at the greeting cards.  As I was flipping through the assortment, comparing the pictures on the outside to the verses on the inside, I came across one that made me LOL.  Seriously.  I chuckled out loud.  There were so many people walking by me that I'm sure no one noticed.  But I loved it so much I took it to the counter and paid for it.  On the front was a disgruntled beaver, Boynton-style, and inside all it said was, "Dam Dam Dam".

It may not seem like a big deal, but I was in a "mood" that day and it tickled my funny bone.  Have you ever read a comic or seen something that made you giggle?  It might not even have the same effect on you the next day, but at that particular moment, its just what you need.

A few years ago I was shopping at Target for who knows what...but I was wandering through the toy aisle.  I saw this action figure and seriously thought about buying it.  I passed on it thinking that it would be a complete waste of money.  I was right, and I know it's silly, but I always stop at that spot in Target hoping to see it again.  I seriously wished I had bought it.  I found it on the interwebs so I could show you what it was, and I promise I won't order it.  Just seeing it again makes me happy.

"Completely devoid of darting eyes"
"A gripping hand would be nice"
"Realistic fake hair"

Fox News ran a story on this back in 2001, probably the same time I saw it in Target.  Its nice to know that people with a sense of humor can make a dollar here and there.

When I find something that really does it for me, I'm going to share it here.  I hope you don't mind.  And please let me know what kind of things have made your day!

Apple Cider Vinegar Honey Tea

I wouldn't normally put those words together but I've got a sore throat.  This is the kind that makes me squint every time I need to swallow.  I'm not congested, but I'm hoarse.  My Bigelow I Love Lemon herbal tea is gone so I've been trying all sorts of home remedies to help ease the pain and I found something that is quite delightful.

By delightful, I don't mean delicious.  Its not bad, but it really soothes my throat.  Apple cider vinegar has some great health benefits too, but it's very acidic and should be diluted because it can damage the tooth enamel and the tissues in your throat and mouth.  According to TLC, it can increase calcium and other mineral absorption and control blood sugar levels.

So I mixed one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and one tablespoon of honey in a mug of hot water and sipped it over half an hour.  Really, its not bad.  I'm just glad I can swallow without cringing.

Clairol is my friend

I'm going to grow old kicking and screaming.  My husband thinks I should just go grey gracefully (say that fast ten times).  Some people look absolutely stunning with silver or grey hair.  I don't believe I'm one of them.  Some twenty-odd years ago I painted a room off-white and got a little paint in my hair.  As I looked at myself in the mirror I couldn't believe how a few white hairs could make me look ten to fifteen years older.  Since that day, I decided that I would not be grey.

I just finished with Clairol 115-A.  As a matter of fact, my hair is still wet as I type this.  Trying to find a shade I like can be complicated.  I like a little gold or red, but not too much.  I really liked the shade I used last year.  I got a lot of compliments, so you think I would have kept the box or even written the number down.  But liking change, I don't think I would have kept using it for long anyway.

This morning as I was squirting that stinky brown goo all over my hair, my husband walked in and the smell took his breath away.  He was so upset that I was subjecting myself to inhaling ammonia that he went and got a fan and tried to air the room out.  I don't think men understand the lengths to which we will go to try and look younger and prettier.  I think Billy Crystal, in Fernando's Hideaway on SNL, put it best:

It is better to look good than to feel good.  And dahling, you look maaaahvalous!

So for the next eight weeks, until the grey starts peeking through, I'll feel mahvalous!  What do you do to feel marvelous?
